Howard St. at Fremont St.
Call to Action: Join hundreds of bikers, scooters & skaters to form a human chain on the Howard bike lane. For an hour we will create a People Protected bike lane. Joining the @PeopleProtected action is impactful. We will follow the event with a celebration of life ride down Howard to Valencia street in the mission.
Why Howard? Why now?
Howard street is biked, skated & scooted by thousands of unarmored road users every day. In the last 2 years and 9 months, 3 people have been killed while biking on this street. Just last Friday Tess Rothstein was the 3rd victim of Howard’s unprotected lanes.
Howard street has 2 parking lanes, 4 high speed car lanes, and a tiny unprotected bike lane. Protected lanes put a barrier of vertical posts, distance and often parked cars between unarmored road user, and cars. We are calling for Protected Lanes the entire length of Howard street
Protected Lanes save lives and are much(!!) more enjoyable and relaxing to ride for people of all abilities. If you want to save lives, get more people out of cars, get more people around SF more easily and save the planet, Protected Lanes are a secret weapon for a smart city.
